New Ferry Terminals
Modern Ferry Crossing Points and Bridge Infrastructure Along the River Gambia
Unifying the divide between the Northern and Southern Banks
OUR MISSION
The River Gambia is a vital geographic artery that divides the country longitudinally thus effectively segmenting the nation into northern and southern banks. One of the long-standing challenges facing economic development and national cohesion has been the lack of reliable modern transportation infrastructure linking both sides. To address this, the National Builders Party (NBP) places strategic focus on constructing modern ferry crossing points and bridges to boost mobility, trade, and unity.
The main aim is to eliminate the current logistical difficulties caused by outdated or infrequent river crossings that delay the transport of people, goods and essential services across the two river banks.
OUR PLAN
- This ambitious project will facilitate; Seamless national connectivity across the northern and southern regions. Improved economic flow between rural areas and urban markets. Faster emergency response and access to social services such as hospitals and schools. Boost in tourism, trade and cross-regional collaboration.
- Key Projects to Be Undertaken are Niumi-Kombo and Badibu through Kiang- Foni Ferry crossings Construction of the Niumi-Kombo Ferry Crossing terminals within the first three years of the NBP government. This is one of the most critical linkages connecting the country's most populous Kombo region with Niumi in the North Bank. A modern ferry terminal equipped with automated ticketing, cargo loading systems and passenger amenities will be established.
- Foni–Badibou–Kiang River Link. A second major ferry crossing will link the western Foni region with the northern Badibou area through the central Kiang corridor. This landmark infrastructure will open new trade routes further allowing agricultural and artisanal goods from Foni and Kiang to reach northern markets with ease.
- The NBP Infrastructure master plan will include paved access roads, customs/logistics points and solar-powered lighting systems to ensure safety and functionality even at night. The Ferry Terminals will also come with modern docking systems, waiting areas, cargo bays, restrooms, digital signage and access control.
- Moreover, safety and efficiency upgrades including navigational aids, life-saving equipment, CCTV, and backup power systems will be in place. To achieve this beautiful vision, the NBP will partner with engineering consultants from countries with riverine infrastructure experience, such as the Netherlands, Germany or Japan to help design a state of the art design model affordable by the country's budget.

IMPORTANCE
The broader benefits of these planned ferry crossings are:
- The new ferries will eventually bring about Social Cohesion and thus reduce the psychological and practical divide between the north and south banks thereby promoting a stronger sense of national unity.
- The ferry terminals and overall operations will create jobs for both Gambians and residents alike.
By connecting communities and markets across the River Gambia, this initiative symbolizes NBP’s commitment to breaking physical and socio-economic barriers, while laying down real, durable foundations for a unified and prosperous Gambia.
