Healthcare
A Unified Vision for Quality Healthcare
We will build a system that saves lives across every corner of The Gambia
OUR MISSION
Under the leadership of the National Builders Party healthcare will become a fundamental right for all. Our healthcare plan is built on accessibility, specialization, and accountability. By combining infrastructure development with smart technology, we will create a system that saves lives across every corner of The Gambia.
The NBP proposes a transformation of The Gambia’s healthcare system to reach global standards, ensuring that every citizen, irrespective of location or economic status, has reliable access to emergency medical care, comprehensive maternal services, and long-term health support. Central to this framework is the construction of advanced trauma hospitals situated strategically nationwide; supported by superior specialist facilities and robust digital infrastructure.
OUR PLAN

Recognizing the specific requirements of women and children, each trauma hospital will include:
- Women’s Wing: focused on gynecology, reproductive health, cancer screening, fertility care, and preventive health services.
- Labor & Delivery Wing: private birthing suites, Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), and care teams specializing in obstetrics and midwifery for safe delivery and post-natal care.
- Children’s Wing: facilities for acute and chronic pediatric diseases, routine immunizations, developmental screenings, and nutritional programs
These specialized wings aim to enhance maternal and child outcomes and decrease preventable mortality rates.

- Streamlined referrals to trauma hospitals for advanced treatment.
Integration between clinics and hospitals will ensure continuity of care and efficient resource utilization.

- Physical therapy and rehabilitation services
- Palliative and hospice services for serious and terminal conditions
- Social and mental health programming to combat isolation.

To modernize operations, a unified national healthcare database will be established to:
- Assign unique Patient ID numbers to all citizens.
- Provide secure digital access to complete medical records.
- Enable cross-facility tracking of patient histories, prescriptions, and diagnostics.
- Support evidence-based planning for health trends and resource deployment.
This system will replace paper-based processes, minimize duplication, and ensure seamless transitions across providers.
- National Mobile Clinic Program
The NBP goal for the National Mobile Clinic Program is to deliver essential healthcare services to remote and underserved rural communities, prioritizing regions with limited existing infrastructure.
Program Features:
- Deployment of mobile clinic fleets staffed by multidisciplinary medical teams
- Provision of basic health assessments, prenatal/maternal care, vaccinations, nutrition advice, malaria/TB screening, laboratory testing, and medication distribution
- Continuous public health education initiatives
Operations:
- Scheduled weekly routes coordinated by the Ministry of Health with input from local authorities.
- Allocation of at least two mobile units per region, adjustable for population demographics
- Installation of solar-powered storage for vaccine and general medication.
- Utilization of mobile data and GPS for monitoring visitations, measuring impact, and scheduling follow-ups
Special Focus:
- Maternal and child health in high-risk communities
- Management of seasonal epidemics, particularly during periods of increased incidence
- Engagement with traditional birth attendants and community health workers to strengthen local capacity.
Institutional and Policy Reforms
Under the Ministry of Health, NBP will:
- Create a Directorate of Mobile Health Services for oversight and evaluation.
- Develop a National Emergency Medical Services policy framework.
- Pursue public-private partnerships for sustainable funding and equipment provision.
- Foster community-based insurance programs for broader affordability
- Implement public dashboards for real-time service monitoring in trauma centers and mobile clinics.
- Medical Staffing Initiative and their benefit
All hospitals and mobile clinics will be staffed by highly qualified medical professionals; including but not limited to: trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, nurses, and technicians. International partnerships will facilitate training and professional development through exchange programs and residencies, complemented by competitive compensation and housing packages to attract specialists, including members of the Gambian diaspora.
Provision of guaranteed housing for medical staff will be ensured through the development of government-funded estate properties dedicated to healthcare professionals. By implementing this strategy, the government can address the ongoing challenge of recruiting and retaining skilled medical personnel, especially in underserved or rural areas where accommodation options may be limited. Dedicated housing not only reduces financial stress on healthcare workers but also fosters a sense of community and stability, which can improve job satisfaction and overall well-being.
Salaries and compensation of members of the medical staff will be competitive to ensure the retention of skilled medical professionals within the country. By offering remuneration that rivals those available in other developing countries, the nation can effectively mitigate the loss of talent to overseas opportunities. This approach not only addresses the persistent challenge of brain drain but also demonstrates a strong commitment to valuing the expertise and dedication of healthcare workers. By investing in the well-being and financial security of medical staff, the National Builders party establishes a foundation for a more stable and robust healthcare system, capable of providing high-quality care to its citizens and meeting the evolving demands of the health sector thus directly improving the life expectancy ranking of the country.
These staffing initiatives demonstrate a commitment to valuing the vital contributions of medical professionals; encouraging more individuals to enter and remain in the healthcare field while living in the Gambia to meet future healthcare needs.
International Linkages:
Collaboration with major global hospitals such as Mayo Clinic, NHS hospitals, Duke University Hospital, and top European university hospitals will offer referrals for specialized care abroad, provide professional development opportunities for Gambian medical staff, and facilitate remote diagnostics as well as expert telemedicine consultations.
first 100 days:
- Evaluate current medical facilities for staffing and medical equipment needs
- Begin site mapping for new regional trauma hospitals.
- Draft legislation to fund outpatient clinics and mobile clinics in underserved areas
- Launch a national task force to design the healthcare database.
