Postal System Modernization
What's Your Address?
Receive your Mail and Packages at Home
OUR MISSION
Without a well-functioning postal service albeit home/business address infrastructure in this modern world, The Gambia may not be able to achieve any meaningful national development, economic growth or effective communication network needed to provide the most basic social needs.
In many parts of The Gambia today, the lack of formalized addresses, street names, and basic mail delivery services continues to hinder commerce, emergency services, communication, and even the simple convenience of receiving a letter or package at home.
The NBP proposes to completely reform and build the national postal system, ensuring that every citizen and resident is assigned a well-defined home address and postal code, and that a functional, efficient, and modern postal and delivery network is established.
OUR PLAN
Core Objectives of the Postal System Reform
- Establish a National Address Database
- Design and implement a standardized address system covering all regions of The Gambia.
- Assign unique street names, house numbers, zones, and postal codes to every habitable structure, business, and institution in the country.
- Develop and maintain a navigable national digital address registry, accessible to all.
- Design and implement a standardized address system covering all regions of The Gambia.
- Create and Enforce a National Zip Code System
- Divide all major towns and cities into postal zones, each assigned a specific postal code (ZIP code), similar to systems used in the US, UK, and other developed nations.
- Extend postal zoning to rural areas using geographic clustering and digital mapping technologies.

International Collaboration and Expertise
The NBP will partner with experienced international postal service providers, urban planning consultants and geospatial technology firms, especially those who have successfully implemented national addressing systems in other countries.
Phased Implementation Plan
Phase 1: In an effort to realize this goal, the NBP will launch a National Participatory Street Structuring Program through the following approach;
- In collaboration with municipal councils, local communities, and planning authorities, the NBP will launch a nationwide street naming and numbering project.
- Citizens will be encouraged to participate in the naming of streets to reflect historical figures, cultural identity, and local heritage thus fostering community ownership of the initiative.
Phase 2: Digital Mapping and Address Assignment
- Partner with international geospatial and logistics firms to conduct a comprehensive digital mapping of all urban and rural areas.
- Implement address plaques and signage systems to ensure that every house and street has a physical marker.
Phase 3: Postal System Infrastructure Overhaul
- Expand the GPSS workforce with trained postal carriers, logistics agents, and digital system administrators.
- Create regional postal hubs in all administrative divisions to serve as collection and distribution centers.
- Equip postal workers with motorbikes, delivery vans, and mobile devices to facilitate efficient door-to-door service.
Phase 4: Technology Integration and Service Expansion
The NBP will Launch a national postal service website and mobile application where users can:
- Register their address
- Track mail and parcels
- Schedule pickups and deliveries
- Access postal code lookup tools
The government will also introduce e-commerce support services, such as postal-based payment on delivery and secure shipment packaging to support local businesses and online sellers.
IMPORTANCE
Social and Economic Benefits
- Economic Boost: Formal address systems are critical for the development of e-commerce, logistics, tourism, real estate, and utility billing.
- Inclusion and Access: Rural populations will not be excluded from postal services or online commerce due to a lack of formal addresses.
- Enhanced Public Services: Emergency responders, utility companies and government agencies will be better equipped to locate residents, deliver aid and monitor community needs.
Civic Pride and Order:
Proper naming of roads and communities contributes to national identity, historical recognition and civic organization. For The Gambia to fully participate in the global digital economy and to improve the daily lives of its citizens, a modern postal and addressing system is not optional therefore, the NBP government will build a postal system compatible with the international standards.
Our party envisions a country where every citizen from the furthest village to the heart of Banjul, can say with pride: “This is my address.” Through this project, we will connect people, grow commerce and bring services directly to the doorsteps of Gambians everywhere.
