OUR MISSION
Brikama is the second most populated city in The Gambia, yet for decades it has lacked the infrastructure, basic services, and organized urban planning needed to support its growing population. The National Builders Party recognizes Brikama as a major urban center and a huge potential commercial engine for the entire West Coast Region and beyond. Under the NBP’s development plan, Brikama will be transformed into a modern commercial city that reflects national progress, economic ambition, and the standard of excellence The Gambia deserves.
OUR PLAN
The modernization project begins with the complete redevelopment of Brikama’s city center. The existing market area, along with the surrounding council structures, has become overcrowded, completely underdeveloped, and outdated.
According to the NBP vision, this entire zone will be cleared and rebuilt into a state-of-the-art mixed-use commercial district that features organized retail spaces, indoor and outdoor markets, banking centers, offices, supermarkets, restaurants, and public gathering areas. This transformation will turn Brikama into a clean, structured, and thriving commercial hub capable of supporting large-scale business activities.
To support this commercial expansion, NBP will design and construct new road networks throughout Brikama, replacing narrow, congested pathways with wider, paved, and well-lit streets. These upgrades will improve vehicle flow, reduce traffic congestion, and enable emergency, public, and commercial transportation to move efficiently throughout the city. Pedestrian walkways, drainage systems, and designated loading zones will be included to enhance public safety and environmental resilience.
As part of elevating Brikama into a regional commercial center, the NBP will also build a world-class performance theater within the city. This facility will host national events, concerts, talent showcases, and community programs, giving Brikama a national landmark that inspires creativity and attracts tourism and investment.
In addition to commercial development, Brikama will become home to the largest state of the art referral hospital in The Gambia. This facility will include specialized wings for trauma care, women’s health, pediatrics, diagnostics, and long-term patient services.
With advanced equipment, trained staff, and modern emergency services, the Brikama Referral Hospital will serve the entire West Coast Region and significantly reduce pressure on healthcare facilities in Banjul and Kanifing.
Through this comprehensive urban transformation, Brikama will evolve into a model of modern city planning with clean streets, organized markets and accessible healthcare infrastructure.
IMPORTANCE
The NBPs modern urban planning blueprint will create a city that meets both current needs and future demands. The NBP envisions Brikama not merely as a large town, but as a fully realized commercial city built with pride, purpose, and the National Standard of excellence.
