Support for Women in Small Business

Constructing New & Improved Marketplaces

OUR MISSION

For decades now, women have formed the backbone of small business and informal trade in The Gambia, especially within local markets that drive daily commerce and community life. However, many of these market spaces remain overcrowded, poorly organized, and lack the basic infrastructure needed for entrepreneurs to operate safely and efficiently.

The National Builders Party is committed to transforming these critical economic spaces into modern, functional and dignified environments where small businesses can thrive.

OUR PLAN

Under the NBP plan, the government will invest in both the expansion of existing markets and the construction of entirely new open markets across the country. This national project will be carried out in close partnership with municipal councils so that each community receives market infrastructure tailored to its population size, commercial activity and regional needs.

The new market complexes will feature:

  • Organized stalls
  • Clean walkways
  • Proper drainage systems
  • Adequate lighting
  • Secure storage area
  • Upscale local food courts and fast foods

These modernized markets will also include designated zones for produce, fish, meat, textiles, cosmetics, and household goods, allowing vendors and customers to operate in a more structured and safer setting.

To enhance commerce and improve the overall market experience, the NBP will integrate modern food courts and restaurants into these public spaces. These additions will not only create more business opportunities, but also attract families, tourists, and nearby residents, turning local markets into vibrant centers of social and economic activity.

IMPORTANCE

The NBP agro-master plan will involve the introduction of new food products to the Gambian farming landscape. Large scale animal husbandry such as ducks, chicken,  dairy, sheep, cattle,  fish, bee farming, and plants such as soy beans, and cash crops such as cotton, tobacco, and cocoa.

Aditionally,  Large scale production of fruits and vegetables will be encouraged i.e. Apple, Grapes, Cranberry, Strawberry, Cherry, Nectarine, Peaches and Banana.

The National Builders Party sees agriculture as a modern, dynamic and a major economic engine that if properly utilized, will ensure that the Gambia becomes food self-sufficient. Through incentives, infrastructure, inspection and innovation, the NBP government will make farming profitable and transformational for farmers, for families, and for The Gambia.
