OUR MISSION

The Policy Goal of the National Builders Party is to transform The Gambia Tourism sector into a premier destination for global and domestic tourism through modernized infrastructure, historical preservation, cultural celebration and world class recreational innovation.

The National Builders Party recognizes the immense potential of tourism to serve as a pillar of The Gambia’s economy. To fully realize this potential, the NBP is committed to revitalizing the tourism industry from a seasonal economic activity to a vibrant, year-round national growth engine. This plan seeks to position The Gambia as a high-value destination that offers cultural depth, natural beauty, historical significance, and modern leisure experiences while creating jobs and promoting national pride.

Key Strategic Objectives

  • Build state-of-the-art tourism infrastructure and destination attractions to appeal to affluent global travelers.
  • Develop a strong inland tourism sector that highlights the River Gambia and its tributaries as recreational and cultural routes.
  • Promote domestic tourism by encouraging Gambians at home and overseas and residents to travel within the country for vacation, cultural appreciation, and relaxation.
  • Transform national monuments and historical landmarks into modern, engaging, and informative experiences.
  • Construct world-class hotels, resorts, amusement parks, theme parks, museums, and water sports facilities in key locations throughout the country.
  • Elevate The Gambia’s brand as a safe, dynamic, and welcoming tourism hub in West Africa.
  • Promote and encourage Gambian Tourism in other African countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Kenya, Congo DRC, South Africa, Uganda etc. to stimulate affluent African tourists to visit the Gambia for vacation.

Pillars of the Tourism Modernization Plan

  1. Tourism Infrastructure and Destination Development
    • Construct new tourism facilities, resorts, and luxury accommodation hubs in key urban and coastal zones to attract international visitors seeking high end travel experiences.
    • Build inland resorts and eco-lodges near key riverbanks and forests to foster eco-tourism and provide peaceful natural retreats.
    • Introduce modern amusement parks, botanical gardens, hiking trails, and wildlife parks for family-friendly and adventure-based travel.
    • Install reliable power, sanitation, road access, and security systems to support new and existing tourism hubs.
    • Establish well equipped and well-funded tourism police units in major travel zones to ensure visitor safety and uphold tourism standards.
  1. Inland and River Tourism Expansion
    • Utilize the full length of the River Gambia to create a network of tourist routes, river cruises, floating restaurants, local boat tours, and water lodges.
    • Promote eco-tours including bird watching, mangrove explorations, traditional fishing experiences, and wildlife observation in riverine areas.
    • Develop river port facilities with customs clearance and tourism information centers for inland waterway travel.
  1. Domestic Tourism Promotion
    • Encourage Gambians from the diaspora to vacation within their own country whenever they come home for visits through discounted travel packages, family resorts, and holiday programs aligned with national holidays and festivals.
    • Launch a “See Gambia First” campaign aimed at cultivating a culture of exploration and national pride among Gambians and residents.
    • Establish student tourism programs to expose youth to national history and geography through organized school trips and youth excursions.
  1. Preservation and Modernization of Historical and Cultural Sites
    • Fully renovate and redesign Arch 22 into a modern national monument with a museum, observation deck, modern national history exhibit, and multimedia storytelling center.
    • Transform Jufureh, Forth Bullen, James Island (Kunta Kinteh Island), and Georgetown (Janjanbureh) into cultural heritage tourism centers with modern visitor amenities, guided tours, interactive museums, and historical reenactments.
    • Partner with historians, architects, and cultural preservation experts to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the historical transformations.
    • Digitize Gambian history to provide accessible information and virtual tours for educational and marketing purposes.

  1. Recreational and Entertainment Tourism
    • Establish large-scale theme parks, water parks, and family resorts modeled after global entertainment standards, including activities inspired by destinations like Disney World and Myrtle Beach South Carolina.
    • Introduce water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking, paddleboarding, sport fishing, parasailing, and river tubing to enhance coastal and river tourism appeal.
    • Build beachside entertainment zones with music, cultural performances, beach volleyball, festivals, and food markets.
  1. Hospitality Industry Promotion and Expansion
    • Expand hotel development in all regional capitals and tourism centers, ensuring high quality lodging is available throughout the country.
    • Provide incentives for private developers to invest in boutique hotels, eco-lodges, and five-star resorts under a regulated public-private partnership (PPP) framework.
    • Create a National Hospitality Training Institute to develop local talent in hotel management, culinary arts, guest services, and tour operations.
    • Standardize service levels across the industry with government-enforced tourism grading and accreditation programs.

Implementation Strategy

  • Establish a National Tourism and Culture Authority (NTCA) with a mandate to oversee tourism planning, marketing, regulation, and development.
  • Engage global tourism consultants and planning firms to design attraction blueprints, conduct feasibility studies, and facilitate international partnerships.
  • Introduce investment packages and tax breaks for both local and international developers willing to participate in tourism projects.
  • Launch international marketing campaigns targeting Africa, Europe, North America, and Asia with messaging that highlights The Gambia’s unique cultural story, natural landscapes, and world-class hospitality.

Secure bilateral cooperation with tourism-exporting countries to build visibility and increase charter flights to Gambian destinations.
