Transforming Kairaba Avenue and Westfield
Modernizing Coastal Tourism Zones into Major Business Districts

OUR MISSION
In this current era of ultramodern urban infrastructure, the NBP understands that transformation in the Gambian context must begin with the modernization of our economic and tourism corridors. To that end, we envision the comprehensive transformation of major population centers in KSMD i.e. Serrekunda, Latrikunda, Bundung, Tabokoto, Abuko, Nemakunku, Tallinding, Sinchu, Sukuta etc.
The NBP also proposes to immediately transform Kairaba Avenue and Westfield into a centralized Business and Financial District, while also upgrading the roads and aesthetic looks of Kololi, Fajara, Bakau, Senegambia, Bijilo, Brufut, Pipeline, Sanyang, and surrounding coastal regions into modern tourism havens.
From Kairaba Avenue to the Westfield area, the NBP plans for a New Business and Financial district with the main objective of creating a highly functional, technologically equipped, and investor-friendly Central Business District to serve as the commercial heartbeat of KSMD.
OUR PLAN
Key Development Plans:
A comprehensive urban plan will be commissioned to clearly zone areas in order to:
- Widen and repave Kairaba Avenue and all major roads in the Kairaba–Westfield axis.
- Install modern street lighting, digital billboards, surveillance cameras, underground power and fiber-optic cabling.
- Develop pedestrian-friendly walkways and designated public transport lanes.
In terms of Urban Aesthetic & Environment, the NBP plans to:
- Enforce clean, modern architectural standards.
- Introduce public parks, green zones, and water features.
- Launch beautification projects, such as mural art and heritage installations to reflect Gambian culture.
The TDA Tourism Modernization Plan
The National Builders Party plans to transform Gambia’s prime coastal zones into world-class tourism destinations offering a blend of leisure, culture, luxury, and adventure attractive to both international travelers and local vacationers.
Other areas of focus will be Kololi, Fajara, Bakau, Senegambia, Bijilo and the entire TDA area.
These are the most frequented urban tourism areas and will be revitalized to become high-end, vibrant tourism hubs. To achieve this vision plan, the NBP shall:
- Develop 4- to 5-star resorts and eco-lodges with international standard amenities.
- Build state-of-the-art entertainment complexes with theatres, shopping malls, and culinary villages.
- Build marinas and luxury boat docking stations to enhance water-based tourism.
- Build modern roads, drainage, lighting, and signage systems.
- Institute strict waste management and beach preservation protocols.
- Install clean, monitored beach access points with lifeguards and security.
- Introduce tourism apps for visitors to book guided tours, transport, and accommodation.
- Provide multilingual kiosks and signage for international accessibility.
- Create spa resorts, meditation centers, nature trails, and bird-watching sanctuaries.
- Develop eco-tourism parks and protect beach reserves.
- Promote “Made in Gambia” local experiences with craft markets, drumming nights, and local food festivals.
- Offer government subsidies and discounts for Gambians to explore domestic travel packages.
- Encourage school field trips and domestic honeymoon or family packages.
Implementation Strategy
- Establish a National Tourism & Business Infrastructure Authority (NTBIA). This dedicated body will be created to oversee the full execution of this transformation project with a dual division: tourism & business.
- Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs)
Incentivize private investors both local and international to co-finance hotel, mall, and road construction under long-term concession plans. - Tourism and Investment Promotion Campaigns by rebranding marketing of The Gambia abroad as “The Smiling Coast of Africa Reimagined.”
The Tourism marketing department will regularly attend global business and tourism expos to attract global franchise brands and high-profile investors.
Long-Term Vision
Within 10 years, the NBP envisions:
- A bustling Gambian Business District that serves as a national enterprise and financial tech industries.
- A world-class coastal tourism belt that blends cultural heritage, natural beauty, and luxury experience.
- A country where Gambians not only work in tourism but also travel, enjoy, and thrive within it.
This dual transformation plan will drive economic growth and create thousands of jobs and redefine The Gambia’s image globally as a beacon of modern tourism development.
